BytePro Enterprise Access Methods
The various methods for accessing the BytePro Enterprise database are described below. You may also wish to review the methods for deploying the BytePro Enterprise client application and our BytePro Online option.
Standard Access
The standard way of accessing BytePro Enterprise is to provide direct access to the BytePro Enterprise database from workstations within your company's network. With this configuration the BytePro Enterprise database is installed on a database server and the BytePro Enterprise client software is installed on each workstation. The database is accessed over your company's local area network (LAN) or wide area network (WAN).
Web Services
With the Web Services option, the BytePro Enterprise client software accesses the database through a web server. If the web server is exposed to the Internet then remote access can be provided to workstations outside of your network without using a VPN. With this configuration the BytePro Enterprise database is installed on a database server, the BytePro Enterprise Web Services component is installed on a web server, and the BytePro Enterprise client software is installed on each workstation.
Terminal Services
Terminal Services is a Microsoft technology that allows software to be installed on a server so that a client computer can access the software remotely. The end user logs into the server from a remote computer and runs the software on the server. With this configuration, the BytePro Enterprise database is installed on a database server and the BytePro Enterprise client is installed on one or more Terminal Services servers. Generally each Terminal Services server can handle 50 or more concurrent users. No software is installed on the local workstation.
Citrix
Citrix is a third party technology that works in conjunction with Microsoft Terminal Services. It works in much the same way as Terminal Services, but provides additional features and controls.
