Release Notes - BytePro 3.0
General Changes (Standard and Enterprise)
Added the Dashboard, which displays a mix of web pages and BytePro reports on one screen
To open, click 'Dashboard' in the sidebar.
The Dashboard select list on the left holds up to ten reports and web pages. Select from one to four reports by holding down the Ctrl or Shift keys as you click. Click 'Run' to display selected reports. Click 'Run' again only when you need to re-run already selected reports.
Selected Dashboard reports are run at the same time - they are optimized to run more quickly together than they would separately. An updated date and time stamp at the top of the Dashboard reminds you of the last time you ran reports.
With two or three reports selected, click 'Layout' at the top of the Dashboard to re-arrange the view dimensions.
Click 'Configure' at the top of the Dashboard (or Defaults > Dashboard) to add reports and web pages to the list of available items. The Built In Report type represents non-editable BytePro reports.
Look for the Defaults > Dashboard topic in the Help Guide for more information on Built In Reports, adding reports, and Dashboard configuration. The Quick Start > Creating a New Loan File topic (in the Help guide) also has Dashboard tips.
Added risk-based premium calculations for FHA loans
Risk-based premiums affect those FHA loans assigned a case file number on or after July 14, 2008. This HUD notice details the new rules used to determine the MIP and annual premium percentages. With the new system, FHA up-front and annual premiums are to be based on the loan term, the LTV and the borrowers' credit scores instead of on the flat rates used prior to July 14.
For files whose case numbers are assigned before July 14, 2008, the old rules for calculating the MIP and annual premium will apply.
On each file, the ‘Case number assigned before July 14, 2008’ checkbox on the ‘Loan with MIP/FF’ popup screen (GFE Part 1 - Loan Programs > assist button to the right of 'Loan with MIP/FF') determines whether flat rate or risk-based calculations are used.
For files created before July 14, 2008, ‘Case number assigned before July 14, 2008’ will be checked by default. For files created on or after July 14, 2008, it will be automatically un-checked.
BytePro will automatically determine the correct upfront MIP on the Loan Programs screen and will update the “Loan With MIP/FF” accordingly. The assist button next to the “Loan With MIP/FF” displays the information used to derive the upfront MIP percentage. For more information see the FAQ: How are FHA risk based premiums implemented? in the BytePro knowledge base.
Increased the number of custom fields
You can now define up to 200 custom fields, and you can also change the order in which the fields appear on the screen. Do you need even more flexibility? Contact Sales and ask about the upcoming 3.1 version of BytePro Enterprise which will feature a custom screen designer.

Added 'As Words' formatting options for number fields (including currency fields) on custom documents and reports
Express a number field, like an interest rate, as an 'As Words' fraction ('six and one eighth') an 'As Words' decimal (six point one two five zero) or an 'As Words' thousandths (six point one two five). You can also format the number field as currency ($6.13) or as a decimal (6.125).
To change the formatting:
- Open the report or document containing the field to edit.
- Double-click the number field to edit, then click the 'Edit' link and choose the format you need.
If you need to display the same field in multiple formats you can make a copy of the field by using the copy button in the toolbar that is displayed above the list of fields.

- Contact your credit reporting agency and ask them to be added as an interface partner.
- Contact us at support@bytesoftware.com and we will work with your credit reporting agency to get them added.
- Choose a different credit reporting agency with a direct interface.
BytePro Enterprise Only
Added the ability to run validation rules when leaving a designated screen or printing a designated document (Enterprise only)
In addition to status changes, validation rules can run when an attempt is made to print a document or to exit a screen. You determine as you edit the rule which status changes, documents and/or screens will run the rule, and whether or not the rule is a warning or error. Warnings display a message only, triggered error rules will not allow the document to print (or the screen to be exited) without satisfying the rule.
The validation rule edit screen has been modified to make those changes easy to edit and view. In Security Manager > Validation Rules, click the screen or document on the left to see all validation rules that will run when the screen is exited or the document is printed. Click 'All status changes' to see all rules that run based on any status change, or click 'all rules' for a comprehensive list.
Double-click to edit an existing rule to see the new edit screen with add sections for status, documents and screens.
Added a ClickOnce installation option (Enterprise only)
ClickOnce is a feature that can make deploying updates a snap when distributing the software within a large organization. A ClickOnce installation is characterized by several features:
- A ClickOnce server installation puts the installation files for the client on the server for each user to download via http (with your web server) or file share access.
- The BytePro installation with ClickOnce is per-user, installing the program files to the user's account.
- The installed application can automatically check for BytePro Enterprise updates on the server. If an update is found, it is downloaded and installed on the client.
If ClickOnce sounds right for your company, the Installation > ClickOnce topic in the Enterprise Admin Guide will give you more information on the advantages and disadvantages of ClickOnce technology.
Added the ability to bulk export BytePro Enterprise loan files and defaults to BytePro Standard (Enterprise only)
Click Tools > Admin Tools > 'Bulk Export to BytePro Standard' to access the export utility. For both loans and defaults, you can choose to overwrite or skip existing data.
To export loans:
- Select 'Loans' and click 'Next'.
- Check to select loans to export. Use the filters on the left (if necessary) and 'Select All' to choose a group of loans.
- Click 'Export', and browse for the folder in which to deposit the loan files. If you are exporting to a BytePro Standard data folder, browse to the appropriate Files subfolder (ex., Active Files, Closed Files, etc).
To export defaults (including custom documents and reports):

- Browse to the folder in which to deposit the loan files. Note that the export will automatically create a 'Reports' subfolder for reports and custom documents. If you are exporting to a BytePro Standard data folder, browse to the Defaults subfolder.
Added the ability to import BytePro Standard loans and defaults from a location that isn't connected to a data folder (Enterprise only)
The import folder no longer has to be a Standard data folder. Go to Tools > Import > BytePro Standard Data, choose 'Loans' or 'Defaults' and then 'Other Folder'. Browse directly to the folder containing the data to import. Note that reports and embedded documents must be in a 'Reports' subfolder within the folder containing defaults to import.
Removed the 500 file limit on the bulk assignment tool (Enterprise only)
The bulk assignment tool (Tools >> Admin Tools >> Bulk Assignment) allows you to update the Status, Organization, and Username assigned to a group of loan files. This tool now allows you to update an unlimited number of files at once.
Added a new option when updating the user name in the bulk assignment tool (Enterprise Only)
When updating a username you now have the option to update the party information associated with that user name. For instance, if you change the Loan Officer user name to the Joan.Jones user, you are now asked whether you want to update the loan officer party (Goto >> Tracking >> Parties >> Loan Officer) with information from the Joan.Jones user in the security manager (Tools >> Admin Tools >> Security Manager >> Users). Updated information includes the contact name and phone numbers.
Added the ability to designate the SQL Server Express installation directory (Enterprise only)
During the installation wizard, you can now choose an installation directory for SQL Server Express other than the default directory of C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server.
Added a database backup option to BytePro Enterprise database updater (Enterprise only)
