I am on a network, and we all see the same Byte loan files. How do I install the Byte update?
How you proceed will depend on whether or not the Byte application itself is loaded on the server. If you are not sure, consult your network technician.
If the Byte application is loaded on the server:
- All Byte users on the network should exit Byte.
- Install the update on the server. Follow the instructions in the How do I install my new Byte update on a stand alone computer? for the server installation.
- When the server installation and update have completed, install the update on each of the workstations.
Note: Do not attempt to open Byte on a workstation that has not yet been updated.
If only the loans and custom databases are loaded on the server:
- All Byte users on the network should exit Byte.
- Install the update on each of the workstations. Follow steps 1 - 3 in the How do I install my new Byte update on a stand alone computer? for the individual workstation installations.
- Pick a fast workstation, and open Byte. The updated Byte application will reach across the network and update the loans and custom databases on the server. This may take several minutes, during which you will see a gray screen in your Byte software. When the update process completes, Byte will open.
Note: Once the databases have been updated, all other updated workstations can open Byte. Do not attempt to access the loans or custom databases from workstations that have not been updated.
