Backing up your data to a compact disc
Byte Software recommends that you back your data up on a regular basis. Byte has utilities that allow you to backup to a set of floppy discs. If you want to backup your data to a compact disc, you will need to know how to use your CD burning software to create a data disc. Two of the more common software packages for burning CD’s are Roxio™ and Nero™. While Byte Technical Support will not be able to assist you with using these software packages, Byte can direct you to their respective websites to locate information on using these software packages.
If you have Roxio™ software installed on your machine, you can find information on how to use your particular version at http://www.roxio.com. Click on the Support link, then click on the appropriate link to the software that you have installed on your computer. You can also go to http://www.roxio.com/en/support/index.jhtml and click on the Ask Roxann button to go to the Roxio™ Answer System.
If you have the Nero™ cd burning software installed on your computer, you can go to http://www.nero.com, click on Support, then click on Tutorials for a list of Nero™ Tutorials.
If you use another CD burning application, Byte Software recommends that you either look to the Help file in that software package or locate the website for that particular software package for instructions on using it to backup data. If your computer has Windows XP™ installed, you can simply right click on the database files, then left click on Send To, then finally left click on your CD burner.
Byte Software recommends that, at a minimum, you backup the LOANS.TQL file and the CUSTOM.TQC file. If you have customized Word documents, or if you have created Mail Merge documents, you will also want to backup the contents of the TQS5\WordDocs folder. If you are using Byte on a stand alone computer (one that is not set up to share a database with other computers) these files and folder by default will be located in the C:\TQS5 folder. If you are working in a networked environment, one where more than one computer can access the same loan files, it is best to perform the backup at the computer that has the database files stored on its hard drive. If the machine that has the database files stored on it does not have a CD burner installed, you may have to copy the database files to the hard drive of the machine that has the CD burner installed before you will be able to successfully create the backup copy.
