We don’t really understand how the shared defaults work. Why are some shared and others not? Can we change them?

Some defaults should be shared for conformity and convenience - for example, closing cost default sets, print sets, zip code defaults, etc. Other defaults are strictly individual. These may include user ids and passwords for credit or underwriting, or settings that reflect personal preference, such as which items to include in the Favorites group. BytePro addresses this need by including the ability to assign individual defaults as either shared or personal. This ‘mix’ of personal and shared is only possible if the Shared Defaults option has been chosen in the Data Folder settings.

It is not possible to assign a particular default as personal for some users and shared for others. Once an individual default is designated (for ex., Favorites Group) as personal or shared, it is personal for all users of that data folder (each user sees the setting from their personal data folder) or it is shared for all users (each user sees the setting from the shared Defaults folder).

To change a default setting from personal to shared, click Defaults (toolbar) and then double-click the default screen of interest.

Each individual setting will have a shared (two computers) or personal (one computer) icon to the right. To change the setting, click the icon, choose ‘personal - editable’ to make the default personal, or ‘shared’ to share the default with all users.

Note: You must have permission (through your user account) to change security policies to make those changes.
